Well, it’s been over *cough* months since the last time I wrote something here. Which is embarrassing and disappointing. I’ll try (again) to keep things going more regularly (starting with some shorter issues to get back into the habit).
I attended the MOVE 2021 conference in London last week. Eight tracks over two days, it was packed full of great talks and even greater discussions. Here are a few quick takeaways from it:
The total cost of ownership of an EV, today, is already cheaper than an equivalent non-electric car. The premium for an EV may be on average around £10k but that is easily made up for over a 5 year period in reduced costs for fuel, tax and servicing.
Hydrogen is still a thing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The average EV journey length is under 10 miles with less than 1% over 100 miles
Roads and tunnels are expensive to build, but neither are needed for flying cars. Yes, flying cars are (still) only a couple of decades away.
Connected cars are producing A LOT of data, which is opening up a huge opportunity for data marketplaces to add value by supplying analysis of this coupled with other data sources
